Composition A (no.404) with Red, Yellow and Blue, 2018 by; Carol Ann Ardolino

Description

This interactive video art project was conceived and designed by Carol Ann Ardolino to provide a platform to display her video and photographic art work. Inspired by the Piet Mondrian 1920's style, the assorted blocks of color, electronic elements and lines of differing width create rhythms that ebb and flow across the surface of the work, echoing the varied rhythm of modern internet connected life. In order to realize Carol Ann's vision of intergrating todays AI, Robotic, Computer and Internet Connected technology with classical 1920 modern art 4 different computer were utilize with 5 display of various type, motion and color sensors and cameras

capi01 Raspberry PI3B+ 4-64x64 matrix, camera, PIR, Pixy

Hardware

The "capi01" computer is a Raspberry Pi 3 - Model B+ - 1.4GHz Cortex-A53 with 1GB RAM which use an Adafruit RGB Matrix Bonnet to drive 4 64x64 RGB LED matrix panels. A Raspberry Pi Camera, Passive IR motion sensor and Pixy Motion Follow sensor are also use as inputs for the matrix display

Software Functional Description

The "capi01" computer is running the Raspbian Linux operating system with Adafruit rpi-fb-matrix, rpi-rgb-led-matrix, Adafruit_PixelDust and Pixy software. Upon startup a custom version of the Adafruit rpi-fb-matrix is loaded and the capi01 computer is connected to VR01A main Display computer via VNC (Virtual Network Computer) so both computer share the same Frame buffer (Display). A portion of this main display is also redisplayed on the 4-64x64 RGB LED Matrix, once a person is detected viewing the art work by the PIR motion sensor, the camera starts and displays a video of that person on the main display as well as the matrix The Pixy Color motion follow sensor then tracks the person skin tones and display the persons movement on the matrix in the form of Colored PixelDust.

ledpi Raspberry PI 3B+ Sound Response RGB LED Driver

Hardware

The "ledpi" computer is a Raspberry Pi 3 - Model B+ - 1.4GHz Cortex-A53 with 1GB RAM which uses an Adafruit 74AHCT125 - Quad Level-Shifter to drive a Side Light NeoPixel LED PCB Bar from the audio input of a USB microphone. The Side Light NeoPixel LED PCB Bar is mounted in a 5 layer diffusion/dispersal screen to make it appear as one solid color or bars of color.

Software Functional Description

The "ledpi" computer is running the Raspbian Linux operating system with custom LightShow Fast Fourier transform (FFT) software which is essentially a audio spectrum analyzer. Upon startup a custom version of the LightShow software is loaded and the panel changes color and intensity based an sound frequency and volume picked up by the microphone. There are 5 frequency bands being displayed at once, the band that is actually seen is the dominate frequency and volume level.

touchpi Magic Mirror, RPI 7 inch Display, 2-16x32 matrix

Hardware

The "touchpi" computer is a Raspberry Pi 3 - Model B+ - 1.4GHz Cortex-A53 with 1GB RAM with 7" Touch Screen for the Magic Mirror and a Adafruit RGB Matrix Bonnet to drive 2-16x32 RGB LED matrix panels.

Software

The "touchpi" computer is running the Raspbian Linux operating system with Magic Mirror builder software and Adafruit rpi-rgb-led-matrix RunText software. Upon startup a the Magic Mirror software is started the and displays holidays, weather and New York Time news feed on the 7" Raspberry Pi 7" Touch Screen mounted behind a one way mirror. The 2-16x32 RGB LED Matrix panels are driver by a custom version of the Adafruit python RunText class, also run at startup which steams new feed from Fox News and Reuters to the 2-16x32 displays.

VR01A Dell XPS 8900 VR computer 8 core 3.41GHz 32GB 27" HD display

Hardware

VR01A is the main display computer it consist of A Dell XPS 8900 with a Intel i7-6700 8 core 3.41GHz processor 32GB Ram and a MSI Radeon RX 480 with 8GB DDR5 display memory. This computer drives the main 27" HD display with media from the internet. It is connect via VNC (Virtual Network Computer) to CAPI01 raspberry pi computer VNC is a remote frame buffer technology so capi01 shares the same frame buffer (Display) as VR01A. CAPI01 is running a custom version of Adafruit rpi-fb-matrix software which capture the frame buffer (Display) and redisplays a portion of it on the 4-64x64 RGB LED matrix.

Aluminum Frame, Translucent Fluorescent Acrylic Panels and Accessories

Hardware

The frame consist of Opernbuilds parts store 20x20 and 20x40 V-Slot® Linear Rail hardware, fasteners and accessories. The power for the LEDs is supplied by 5V 20Amp 110V power supply and a 6 port USB charger supplies Raspberry Pi's and sound bar.
